Participants traveling with The League's Assisted Travel program need to be successful with a 3:1 traveler to counselor ratio. We are unable to provide services to travelers with dangerous or aggressive behaviors. The League's Assisted Travel program is not able to accomodate people with complex medical needs (such as feeding tubes, assistive breathing devices, etc) or needs that a Registered Nurse cannot delegate to a Certified Medication Technician (e.g. sliding scale insulin, suprapubic catheter, etc). Participants requiring assistance with transfers must be able to transfer with a standing pivot OR must be able to be lifted comfortably by no more than two staff members. All potential travel participants will be carefully evaluated to determine if The League can provide the care required for safe participation in our programs.
Most trips will have a maximum number of wheelchair spots due to transportation and rooming issues. Due to the evaluation process, you must submit a paper registration form, skills check sheet, and full deposit in order to be considered for the trip. Your spot is not confirmed until you have received a confirmation letter in the mail from Camping & Therapeutic Recreation.
Step 1:Call Kathy Tingler at (410) 323-0500 ext. 309 to receive a Registration Form and Skills Check Sheet. Return the completed Registration Form and Skills Check Sheetwith a deposit for each program ($400 per assisted travel program) or a letter from a service organization stating the amount to be paid by them. Please note that deposits are non-transferable and non-refundable.
Step 2: If needed, an administrator will contact you to get clarification about ability level and support needed, and to answer any questions you may have about our program.
Step 3: If accepted on the trip, you will receive a confirmation letter with a Medical Form and Medication Form (both forms are also available for download here). Both of these forms must be filled out by a doctor and must be received by The League at least two weeks prior to the program. If there are changes in your medication before the program begins, be sure to forward a new doctor's order to The League as soon as possible.
Step 4: Mail your final payments to The League two weeks prior to the trip for all Assisted Travel Programs.
Cancellation Policy:
Assisted Travel Programs:Participants who submit changes or cancellations made at least 90 days prior to trip departure will receive a refund for tuition paid minus the deposit and any pre-purchased portion on the vacation package. Trips cancelled after the 90-day deadline will still require full payment. Exceptions to this rule may be made at the discretion of the Director with documented proof of medical emergency. For reasons of safety, travelers may lose their space on the trip if necessary paperwork, including all medical forms, is not received by the due date. Change/cancellation penalties may apply. There will be no refund for cancellations or delays due to weather. Chages to airport or departure and en route plans are considered a change in itinerary and penalties may apply. Travelers may be refused on the trip is he/she shows up in ill health or without all medication and dosage for the trip plus one day. No refund will be issued if a traveler is refused boarding due to lack of identification or other reasons.
Camping & Therapeutic Recreation reserves the right to determine sending a participant home, at the participant’s expense, if a participant exhibits inappropriate behavior, is sick for more than 24 hours, or is not having a successful recreational experience. This is done at the discretion of the Director. In these cases, the participant’s fee will not be returned. If the minimum number of participants is not achieved one month prior to the program, the program will be cancelled and a full refund of tuition paid will be made.
Health Services:For all year-round Camping & Therapeutic Recreation programs, there will be staff trained in Medication Administration, CPR, and First Aid on site 24 hours per day. There is also both a registered nurse and physician on call 24 hours per day. Health Services in our programs are limited to procedures that can be safely delivered by the staff provided. The League Camping & Therapeutic Recreation is not able to accept campers who require intensive 24 hour medical care or who require medical procedures not easily managed in a camp environment. This is determined at the discretion of the director and/or camp nursing staff. Potential travel participants will be carefully evaluated to determine if their medical needs are able to be accomodated while on the trip. Please contact the Director at 410.323.0500 x366 if there are any questions about a participant's specific medical needs.
