Camp Greentop's 75th Anniversary

The Fund for Camp

Here for 75 years,  Here for good!

Message from Renee Gordon,
Co-Chair of  Camp Greentop’s  75th Anniversary Celebration

Dear Friends,

Can you believe that Camp Greentop is 75 this year!

The League for People with Disabilities’ programs, including Camp Greentop, have provided life-changing experiences for more than 10,000 campers - one happens to be very special to me.

In the midst of the daily challenges of raising a child with autism, I am constantly reminded of the wonderful opportunity that Camp Greentop gives my son, Alex, each summer.  The opportunity to reconnect with friends, spend time in the beautiful Catoctin Mountains (just down the road from Camp David!) and enjoy all of those summer camp activities that his normally-developing peers experience.

I know that Camp Greentop transforms lives. The smile that lights up Alex’s face and whoops of joy as we round the bend to Camp Greentop each summer say it all! That Alex, who has profound autism and cannot speak, can express such happiness is truly a gift to me and my husband Barry.

To celebrate Camp Greentop’s 75th Anniversary, The League for People with Disabilities has planned a year-long calendar of events ranging from casual lunch and learn conferences to a spectacular dinner for 300. The League will gather past campers and staff and also benefit from a charity bike race in Frederick, Maryland this summer.

I am proud to co-Chair this year-long celebration with my friend and fellow board member Michael Hettleman.

As part of our celebration, we are unveiling a special fundraising initiative-- The Fund for Camp -- to celebrate our milestone and ensure camping and respite programs are here today, tomorrow and for future generations.  The Fund will also help grow the year-round Recreation and Respite Program and develop the incredible staff dedicating their careers to working with our people with disabilities. Every summer 80 staff and counselors provide a top-notch camping adventure for 65 individuals.

I hope to see you at one (or more!) of our upcoming events to commemorate our milestone. Thank you in advance for being a champion for “Good” and for making it a little easier for families to give their child the gift of summer camp.

Warm regards,

Renee Gordon
