Summary

The staff RN is responsible for monitoring the health status of all League participants, completing appropriate documentation that meets COMAR regulations and actively participating in the care planning process. 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Monitors the health status of all participants, complete appropriate documentation that meets the COMAR regulations and notifies the Medical Coordinator of any changes observed.

  • Completes monthly note and PRN notes on all participants and document on appropriate forms.

  • Assists with nursing case management by obtaining needed medical and dental appointments.

  • Provides direct supervision to PA’s and activity assistants.

  • Creates and organizes participant’s chart according to League standards.

  • Assist with the evaluation and maintaining of necessary ADL equipment available to all clients.

  • Administers daily medications and PRN medications as required.

  • Identifies participant/family needs and incorporate into the plan of Care of the participants. Identify and conduct any instruction in medication, nutrition, or activities of daily living.

  • Accepts, writes and transcribes verbal orders from the physician and follows up in written form with the physician by using the 180 day doctor’s order tracking sheet to monitor the timely return of orders.

  • Assist Medical Day Director with facilitating participant’s transportation needs.

  • Communicates with caregivers/participants as appropriate for coordination of care.

  • Provides direct attendant care.

  • Assists in the health education for employees.

  • Leads group activities as directed by the Medical Coordinator.

  • Orders and maintains medical supplies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participating in various in-service training activities and attending workshops and seminars to maintain and improve professional skills

  • Conducting training and in-service sessions of varying nursing issues for staff and clients

  • Participating actively in supervision of CNA’s and participants.

  • Insuring that all communication with the community, written or verbal is professional in nature and appearance.

  • Representing The League and its services to the public in a positive manner

  • Participating in the program’s quality assurance system.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Maryland State certification as a Registered Nurse/ licensed practical nurse.

  • A minimum of one year directly applicable experience with adults in a health care setting.

  • Current licensure by the State of Maryland.

 

Physical Abilities: Ability to sit for extended periods, finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination, effective verbal communication, fine motor skills.  May require occasional travel outside of agency.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Safety procedures and proper body mechanics

  • Documentation procedures to ensure proper care.

  • The needs of special populations

 

 

 

Ability to:
Maintain accurate records and prepare reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co workers and the public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct the work of subordinate staff; read and interpret governmental laws, regulations and related materials; direct the work of others.
