Family Consultant

The Family Consultant is responsible for providing monthly consultation, support, and training to caregivers and families receiving Autism Waiver services for their children.  The Family Consultant will work with families and staff to meet the individual needs of the participants and provide family training as necessary. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with participants, families, professional staff and community members in a person-centered manner.

  • Develop a positive working relationship with assigned participant(s), families and Support Counselors.

  • Develop individualized, measurable, and relevant Treatment Plans for each assigned participant.

  • Review and update Treatment Plans annually, as required by MSDE.

  • Conduct 6-month Reviews for each participant, focusing on progress towards individual goals and behavior management, and making recommendation for adjustments in specific objectives and/or strategies being utilized.

  • Fully document all Family Consultation services provided in The League’s ETO database.

  • Provide observation and guidance to the Support Counselors on a monthly basis, ensuring that proper therapeutic techniques are being used.

  • Provide feedback to Support Counselors about evidence-based strategies that can be implemented to assist participants in achieving their goals and objectives.

  • Document all Support Counselor observation sessions on the Monthly Observation/Supervision Form, providing quality notes that will assist the Manager in providing professional development and more intense supervision where needed.

  • Work with participant, family and professional staff to achieve individual goals, in accordance with each participants Treatment Plan.

  • Assist families in developing techniques in working with their children.  Ideally, Family Consultants will teach families how to implement/mirror the same strategies that Support Counselors are implementing, to allow for consistency of skill development and retention both in the home and community.

  • Coordinate and actively participate in both staff and interdisciplinary team meetings.

  • Work cooperatively with other Youth Autism Services staff to support participants.

  • Communicate participant and programmatic needs with the Program Manager.

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualification requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Psychology, Human Services, or a related field OR a Special Education Certification

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working with children with autism spectrum

       disorders, or providing relevant training on the topic.

  • Access to a reliable automobile and a valid driver's license with no more than 3 points.
