Direct Support Professional (DSP) Personal Supports – Part Time


The League for People with Disabilities is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work individually with a young man with Autism and intellectual limitations in his home in Pikesville and in the nearby community. The young man is mostly self-directing, able to communicate to some degree through writing and able to use a Windows computer enjoying YouTube videos. The focus would be to help with activities of daily living, mealtimes and broaden his range of in-home and outside activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preferred work hours are between 10 AM-6 PM, Mon-Friday, with some flexibility in these hours.

  • The DSP’s basic responsibilities would be to engage with the individual and assist him as necessary with his meals, toileting, and accessing his computer.

  • DSP would also work to expand the individual’s skills and recreational activities in the home: typing, reading, and communicating; accessing YouTube programs; and watching movies (e.g., Disney shows).

  • Plan and initiate preferred activities outside of the home (shopping, Aquarium, Science Center, Zoo, etc.).

  • Document daily and weekly progress toward goals using app on your smart phone or tablet. Must have own device.

  • Provide transportation when needed using your own personal vehicle. Your personal vehicle must pass basic League inspection. You will be reimbursed for mileage and other pre-approved expenses.

  • Demonstrate the 5 Core Values of The League (Accountability, Participant Focus, Quality, Independence and Mutual Respect).

Education and/or Experience:

  • At least one year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.

  • High school diploma required, AA in related field preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • At least 1 year driving experience, 2 years preferred.

  • Access to reliable automobile with valid insurance.

  • Must have valid driver’s license with no more than 3 points.

  • Must possess basic computer skills, particularly familiarity with Windows, Zoom, and YouTube

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
