Position: Manager, Health Services   

Department: Adult Medical Day  

Reports to:  Director, Health Services

Job Type:  Full Time                             

Exempt/Non Exempt: Exempt

Hours:  M- F 8am-4pm

 

Summary: The Health Services Manager is responsible for monitoring the health status of all League participants and completing appropriate documentation that meets the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR).  The Health Services Manager also actively supervises Medical Day program staff and participates in the quality assurance and utilization review process.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the health status of all participants, completes appropriate documentation that meets COMAR and notifies the members of the multidisciplinary team when changes are observed

  • Provides direct supervision to Medical Day nursing support staff

  • Completes ADCAPS and Plans of Care, as well as documents nursing observations, interventions and incidents in the nursing notes as appropriate and in accordance with COMAR

  • Identifies participant/family needs and incorporates into the participant’s Plan of Care

  • Tracks orders from physicians to ensure timeliness and implementation into the Plan of Care

  • Communicates with caregivers/participants and other medical professionals as appropriate for the coordination of care

  • Assists with nursing case management by obtaining needed medical and dental appointments, and follows up as needed

  • Monitors clients for any necessary rehabilitative services (i.e. PT, OT, SLP) and initiates acquisition of services

  • Ensures that all communication with the internal and external community, whether written or verbal, is professional in nature and appearance

  • Administers medications as required and conducts any instruction in medication, nutrition or activities of daily living to participants and/or families

  • Prepares assessments and plans of care for State agency review as required

  • Completes assessments and provides direct attendant care as required for the participants in The League’s Developmental Disabilities (DD) programs

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with supervision of Medical Day participant transportation and works to alleviate issues as they occur

  • Creates and organizes medical charts according to League standards

  • Conducts training and educational in-services on various nursing and medical issues for staff and participants

  • Assists with the evaluation and maintenance of medical equipment owned by the Company or issued to participants including wheelchairs

  • Provides appropriate first aide to all League participants, members, visitors and staff as needed

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • State of Maryland active and valid RN license

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred

  • Ability to maintain accurate records, prepare reports and evaluate and direct the work of subordinate staff

  • Ability to read and interpret government laws, regulations and related materials

  • 2 years nursing experience required, with management experience preferred

  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proper body mechanics
